Beneficiaries

R.E.A.C.H. (Resources and Education for Autism and related CHallenges) aims to provide parents in the Bahamas with comprehensive knowledge and tools for working with individuals with autism and related neurobiological disorders. Cans for Kids has assisted R.E.A.C.H. with their annual summer program for children with autism and related challenges.

The Bahamas Humane Society (BHS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the humane treatment of animals, preventing animal cruelty, and ending pet overpopulation through continuous education. Funds raised through the Cans for Kids program went towards the BHS education program, enabling BHS staff to visit schools across the island and schools to visit the shelter, as well as towards BHS annual summer camps.

The Centre for Exceptional Learners in Governor's Harbour, Eleuthera provides a learning environment for students with challenges such as mental handicap, autism, dyslexia, developmental speech problems, ADHD and behavioural issues. Funds raised through the Cans for Kids program was used to purchase ingredients for home economics lessons, birthday cakes for the students, student rewards, and an expedition to the general store to learn shopping skills.

The Indaba Project (an after-school program in Nassau) earned 1st place in the Cans for Kids Spring Bash Competition (a can collection drive which challenges students to collect the most aluminum cans within a 60-day period). By bringing in 2,755 lbs. of aluminum cans, they won a cash prize to fund their field trip program.

Columbus Primary School in Nassau received a new desktop computer after earning a top spot in the Cans for Kids Spring Bash Competition. Columbus Primary collected 1,200 lbs. of aluminum cans and raised $350 for its various projects.

Temple Christian Primary School in Nassau gathered more than 1,400 lbs. of aluminum cans for the Spring Bash Competition, earning 3rd place and receiving a cash prize for its field trip program.
